A NEW campaign promoting Wales as a destination for nurses to train, work and live has been launched.

The Train, Work, Live campaign was introduced by cabinet secretary for health Vaughan Gething AM, as he announced that NHS bursaries for eligible student nurses, midwives and allied health professionals will continue to be available in Wales in 2018/19.

The bursary will be based upon individuals committing in advance to taking up the opportunity to work in Wales, post qualification, for a period of two years.

Majallel Lorin, a community nurse at Ebbw Vale’s Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan Hospital said: “Continuation of the nursing bursary in Wales is great news for the next generation of trainees entering my profession.

“Having trained and qualified as a nurse in my native Philippines in 2011, my mother encouraged me to consider following in my uncle’s footsteps and look further afield at a nursing role overseas.

“Wales is such a welcoming and friendly place it’s a great place to work and live and I would encourage other overseas nurses looking to relocate, to firmly put this wonderful country at the top of their list.”

The international campaign will target newly qualified and experienced registered nurses, as well as those who may be considering returning to the profession.

Mr Gething said: “Wales is a great place to train, work and live; we value the professional judgement of nurses and we want to get that message out to attract more nurses to come experience what we have to offer.”
