EXPERIENCE a historical re-enactment of Wales’ cultural identity on Wednesday, August 16 at the Pontypool Museum.

The Heroic Peoples of the Silures - Mae Pobl Arwrol y Syllwg – is a Heritage Lottery Funded (HLF) project and their ancient chariot is currently being stored at the museum.

The project has been created by the Yr Hyddgen Community Theatre Group, who aim to bring the Iron Age tribes, like the Silures of south east Wales to life with workshops and other events.

‘Be A Silurian’ will be taking place at Pontypool Museum where the re-entactment group will have a Celtic chariot in the courtyard and there will be fighting with swords and role playing with the group.

The Silures were a tribe who are believed to have had links to the Caerwent, Sudbrook and Goldcliff areas of the Gwent.

The event takes place between 10am and 12pm and it is free for children of all ages providing they come with an adult.
