SIX apprentices have started the next stage of their on-the-job training with Cwmbran’s Bron Afon Community Housing.

The group, consisting of a plumber, two electricians and three carpenters, are continuing to learn their trades while helping to repair Bron Afon’s 8,000 homes in Torfaen.

Each week they spend a day a week at a local college working towards their qualifications.

John Taphouse, Bron Afon’s acting director of property, said: “Over the years we have supported dozens of apprentices who have gone on to successful careers in the construction industry.

“As Torfaen’s largest social landlord we are proud to be able to offer apprenticeships.”

“Each year they work hard to meet our workplace standards and achieve the college results needed to continue to the next step of their training.

“It is a challenging experience but we want to make sure that those who complete their qualifications are in the perfect position to find a job.”

“Already these six talented trade apprentices are working on some of our key projects to help us improve our homes for tenants.”
