PONTYPOOL Park will be looking to retain its title as Wales’s best park in a UK-wide charity competition.

Torfaen’s only nominee is among four from Gwent and 13 in Wales to be nominated for a national ‘best park’ award.

It joins Blaenau Gwent’s Six Bells Park, and Beechwood and Belle Vue Parks in Newport, are competing for the UK’s Best Park Award, run by Fields in Trust – formerly the National Playing Fields Association.

An online public vote is open now and remains open until 5pm on Friday, November 3, at fieldsintrust.org/bestpark.

Fields in Trust chief executive Helen Griffiths, said: “ Despite their clear health benefits, parks and green spaces are facing an uncertain future - across the UK outdoor spaces are under threat.

“The UK’s Best Park Award celebrates the parks and green spaces which are so vital to the communities that use them.

The parks with the most votes in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will be shortlisted for the overall UK award, which will be announced at an event in London on November 29.
