Blaenavon 14 - Abertillery 12
Blaenavon RFC played their first friendly against a very strong Abertillery outfit at the Rec.
With a number of players unavailable Blaenavon were unable to make to many changes,but put on a strong display to dominate early doors and score an excellent try from a driving maul by Steve Howard. Play continued in similar fashion with both sides playing open fast rugby,shunning penalty chances when available to go for tries. Abertillery score a converted try and did attempt a penalty late on to try and snatch victory but to no avail.With five minutes to go Blaenavon were awarded a penalty try as Abertillery again collapsed a scrum on their own line.This display showed the coaches that Blaenavon can compete and do well in Div 3 next year.
