On Saturday the clubs' 1st XI made the trip to League newcomers Mathern FC.

With some players missing the side knew that its was going to be a tough fixture.

As with all new teams that get promoted they are on a crest of a wave and often prove difficult sides to beat.

With a perfect playing surface, the hosts started the better of the teams playing some good football in the opening fifteen minutes. The team started to edge into the game creating problems in the Mathern defence. The game edged from end to end as both teams tried to break the deadlock for the remainder of the first half. For those watching it was a surprise that no goals were scored as the teams came in 0v0 at the break, with Daynar Thorpe, Richard Wakeling, Sam Smith and Matthew Kvedaras all going close to breaking the deadlock.

It was Race that started the brighter in the second half, both sides again had many attempts to get on the scoreboard, with some good football being played. Then on 60 minutes up stepped Shaun Williams to score a thunderous lowly driven free kick from 25yards that thundered in off the post to give the keeper no chance. The home team then upped their game and duly equalised 5 minutes later, through their impressive central midfielder. Mathern went in search of the winner in the final quarter but some resolute defending secured Race an encouraging three points on the road.

At this fixture the club wore their new strip courtesy of the generosity of local accountancy firm. N & R Accounting Services of Pontnewynydd. The clubgave its thanks to Nicky and Richard for their support of our club for the 2013/2014 season.
