CWMBRAN RFC U12s returned as champions when they travelled to St. Peter’s RFC Cardiff for their u11s/u12s tournament.

After winning games against Llandaff, St Peters and Llanishen, and having no tries scored against them, Cwmbran's semi final game was against Penallta.

Cwmbran turned over ball in the Penallta 22 to send Morgan Spence through to score. Morgan had received several knocks during the day and received another in scoring which meant he had to go off.

Lewis Bates took over at 15 and soon made a great run down the left wing to score. Lewis soon followed up with another great try from a tap and go penalty on halfway making it 15 – 0 to Cwmbran.

Cwmbran played the final against Penarth, a team which had a tremendous pack that had mauled every other team into submission.

But Cwmbran forwards really upped their game and gave the backs a great platform to play off.

Lewis Bates broke through to score from a Cwmbran attacking lineout in the Penarth 22.

Lewis Bates chased the kick to start the second half and when Penarth fumbled the catch, picked upped and ran through to score.

When Penarth knocked-on on halfway Joel Doughty picked up and made a fantastic run straight through midfield to score, which meant Cwmbran won the final 15 – 0 and the tournament without conceding a single try all day.

Although he didn’t score a try, Will Reed was rock solid all day in defence and his runs through midfield created space and opportunities for others. Will was named player of the tournament, an accolade that was well deserved.
