TORFAEN Dolphins hosted their second open meet on June 21 and 22, since the merger of the two swimming clubs back in October 2012.

It was a jam packed weekend for Torfaen Dolphins as they hosted both a level 2 and level 4 meet to cater for a wider range of swimming competitors.

Clubs travelled from all around Wales and England to participate in this exciting meet held at Newport International Sports Village.

During the Level 2 Meet, Torfaen Dolphins produced outstanding swims with countless personal bests, medals and swimmers gaining meet records. The hard training programme is undoubtedly paying off as the team graced the podium many times.

The level 4 meet allowed swimmers that have just begun to swim and compete, the opportunity to participate in a swim meet in a fun and relaxed environment. Again, the Torfaen Dolphins ‘minis’ produced superb results with medals and Personal bests galore.

The ever popular Hawaiian day made a welcome return with swimmers, coaches and parents all dressing up and joining in the fun.

Head coach Gareth McNarry said: “This weekend is always a weekend that swimmers look forward to. The fun and relaxed environment allows swimmers to enjoy themselves, which always leads to fast swimming.

“I am very happy with where we as a club are heading and exciting times lie ahead. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who competed and also everyone who gave up their time and energy to make this year’s meet a big, if not bigger, success than last year.”

Torfaen Dolphins would like to thank their team of coaches, team managers, officials and volunteers for their hard work over the weekend.

They are quickly back to work though as they put in final preparations ahead of their Long Course Meet in Bristol in two weeks time.
