AFTER previously defeating the Newport and District Junior League, the East Gwent League reached the final of the Gwent County FA under 16s Inter-League cup to face a very strong Islwyn Junior League at Llanwern on Thursday evening.

Players from Abergavenny Town, Caldicot Town, Garden City, Mardy, Rockfield Rovers and Undy Athletic junior clubs represented the East Gwent League, which is sponsored by your Free Press.

The Islwyn League side had a strong presence of players from the Risca under 16s Academy, but the East Gwent team ran out 3-0 winners in what was a very competitive game.

Goals from Jack Grayer, Sam Rashdi and Matt Macdonald sealed the win.

The East Gwent Junior League would like to thank all the players and team coach Andy Beattie for their commitment to the representative team.
