BLAENAVON Blues played A C Pontymister on Saturday, which resulted in a draw.

Blues broke the deadlock on twenty minutes, Matthew Burns crossing into the box for Ben Walker to neatly side foot the ball home.

The rest of the half was fairly even, Pontymister slightly edging the procession.

The second half started with good link up play between Walker and Leigh Williams, after a smart one two Williams shot was inches too high.

Blues increased their lead when the industrious Marc Browning put over a dangerous cross, the Pontymister defender cushioned his header towards his keeper only for him to let the ball go through his legs into the net.

Walker then left the field injured to be replaced by Jake Bull.

Brownings’ ball sent Steve Jenkins down the right flank, his cross was met by Burns who rattled the bar with a powerful header.

Williams’ through ball found Burns in space, the youngster shot narrowly over.

Blues suffered a bad blow when defensive lynchpin Niall Yeates limped off injured.

Almost immediately Pontymister pulled a goal back. Blues centre back Craig Tanner, under pressure from two attackers headed a corner past his own keeper.

At the other end Burns again broke through, this time his attempted lob was just wide.

In the dying seconds of the game Pontymister drew level, a loose ball was hit with tremendous power and flew into the net from thirty metres plus.

A disappointment for the Blues but a draw was probably a fair reflection of the game, neither side deserving to lose.
