A NEW women's course record has been set in the Pontypool parkrun.

It was achieved by Angela Jones of Fairwater Cwmbran Runners, who finished in 19 minutes and 31 seconds. The previous record holder was Isobel Parry with a time of 19 minutes 43 seconds, set at an event last year.

The Saturday run saw 121 runners take part, of whom 13 were first timers. There were also 35 new personal bests recorded.

Core volunteer Richard Bowie said: "As a regular timekeeper I have a unique opportunity to see people at the finish line and how they improve over time. It's heartwarming to see people who traditionally would never try running, get out and do their best."
