PONTYPOOL Town emerged victorious from a goal-filled game against Usk on the weekend.

Having edged their opponents 5-4 in a cup thriller earlier in the season, the Torfaen side were looking for another victory on what proved a wet and windy occasion after initial sunshine.

The rain couldn't dampen their creativity and exploits in front of goal however, and they went out to secure a thrilling 6-3 win.

The scoreline didn't do Usk justice though, and they in fact began the better of the two teams, scoring the first goal.

Pontypool changed their strikers from the last game and were duly rewarded when they both scored before half time to put Ponty 3-1 ahead, goals coming from Ben Morse, with a double, and Jake Wells.

Playing downhill in the second half Ponty went further ahead with a brace from Sean Kearns, inclidng one from the penalty spot which banished the demons of his last missed spot-kick.

However Usk battled back to 5-3 and it was only a late goal from Chris Dancey which sealed the win. The game was played in a mixture of sun rain sleet and snow and some thoughts must go to the referee who must have been absolutely frozen.

Pontypool would like to thank the Usk team who came back to the club's HQ, the Bell Inn, for the aftermatch refreshments.
