TALYWAIN RFC travelled over the mountain to visit league leaders Brynmawr on the weekend, writes Laura Driscoll.

An outstanding performance from the Talywain players saw Brynmawr go down by 20 points to 15 with Talywain taking the four league points.

Every Talywain player put his body on the line with great determination. They were resilient right throughout this dog fight.

The Talywain pack was fantastic, coming out on top in the forward battle and starving Brynmawr's pacy back line of the ball.

It was also a fantastic performance from the Talywain backs in both defence and attack.

It was difficult to pick one man-of-the-match, but number 10 Adam Williams put in a excellent performance, just shading it.

He put in a brilliant all round performance. But his kicking game, in particular, was top notch. Alun Scammell claimed Talywain's first try with a barn storming run from 25 metres out and was unstoppable, bursting through at least five defenders after some fantastic mauling from the Talywain pack. Jamie Parry claimed the second Talywain try. Both tries were converted by Williams, adding to two penalties. Captain Jamie Willmott said he was enormously proud of all the players.

"We knew that it was going to be a really difficult place to come and a very good and hard team to play against," he added. "The league doesn't lie. They were top. But I know on our day, with everyone buying in, we are capable of not only matching - but beating - anyone in our league. I am extremely proud to be captain of this bunch of players and I can't thank them enough for their efforts today. We now look forward to visiting Croesyceliog on Thursday."
