FORGESIDE U12s kicked off their season with a fantastic win away at Senghenydd.

The team consisted of forwards Riley Coslett (captain), Jake Lewis, Ben Skyrme, Will Jones, Iestyn Redman, Conall Burton and Harrison Reed. The backs were Callum Kenvin, James Priest, Ioan Parry, Ollie South, Kai Teale and Arron Turner.

Forgeside got off to a flyer when centre Ioan Parry side-stepped his way over the line after only 3 minutes.

The second try followed shortly after as fleet-footed winger Kai Teale outpaced the home side's defence to get his first try of the game, converted by Parry.

Then outside half James Priest barged his way over the line to put Forgeside in control, converted again by Parry.

Senghenydd were not out of the game though as they forced their way up field to score a try of their own on the half time whistle, leaving the score 5-19 to Forgeside.

The second half started even better than the first as Parry was at it again to bag his second try of the game in what was a super display by the centre, converted by Burton.

Forgeside were in control at this stage as their props Skyrme and Coslett were carrying the ball well and the back row combination of Redman, Reed and Burton were also doing a sterling job in the loose and at the breakdown area.

Hooker Lewis was in fine form as he stole possession off the home side time and time again and Jones was also working hard around the fringes.

Centre South was next to get in on the act as he outpaced the home side's defence to score his first try of the game, converted by Burton. Winger Teale then got his second of the day as he showed the Senghenydd defence a clean pair of heels.

South then got his second of the game as he was in blistering form, converted by Burton.

Priest was the next to score a second try, which South converted.

Winger Turner also made several breaks and tackled well throughout.

The result was a really positive start to the season and a mention needs to go to Senghenydd, as they worked hard throughout the game and never gave up.

The Forgeside coaches will be pleased with this performance and it certainly gives them something to build on in training this week.

Final score Senghenydd 5 Forgeside 50.
