GWENT COUNTY AMATEUR CUP 1ST ROUND THORNWELL RED & WHITE 2 TRINANT 4
AFTER last week’s draw at leaders New Inn, Thornwell put in a very poor performance, by far the worst they have played this season.
Thornwell made a good start – Rory Prettyjohn beating Trinant’s Ashley Randall with a low shot for a 1-0 lead but were stunned when Trinant’s Adam Williams found plenty of space on the right. His 20-yard shot flew over Dan Northey and into the net.
Then Trinant’s Richard Lyons lobbed keeper Northey to make it 2-1.
Trinant scored their third with the goal of the game - a great build-up finished off in style by Jamie Cottrell.
But the chances that came the home side’s way did not fall kindly for the Thornwell forwards, with Trinant notching up a fourth.
Simon Gould got some pride back for Thornwell to make it 4-2.
The club’s next games are Rhymney, home, November 10; Trinant away, November 17, Caldicot Castle, home, November 24.
