CALDICOT Junior Rugby Club Under-11s and 12s enjoyed success at the London Welsh tournament, returning home victorious and unbeaten.

Both Caldicot sides got off to flying starts. The size and power of the club’s front rows has never been in question but the Welsh rules don’t allow for pushing, as the English do at U11s level.

However, Caldicot took to it like a duck to water.

In the first game, Caldicot defeated London Welsh 3-0.

In the next game, the team used the scrum as a potent attacking weapon to beat Salisbury 4-0.

Next up was Wasps, who had no answer to Caldicot’s wingers and were thumped 8-0. In the group decider, the team took on Richmond, both teams unbeaten.

Richmond included the son of England World Cup winner Lawrence Dallaglio, who signed autographs and posed for pictures.

Caldicot enjoyed most of the territory but were unable to achieve a breakthrough and it ended 0-0.

Caldicot then had to wait for the final game between Richmond and Salisbury, which Richmond won 4 - 1.

Crucially, they conceded a try which meant Caldicot’s superior tries against tally left them as winners.

A special mention must go to Rhys who supported his team all day from the sideline as he was recovering from a broken leg.

All the hard work by Claire Richards and the management was paid back by the boys’ effort, performance and conduct.

Caldicot mini and junior teams train at the club on Wednesdays at 6.30pm. New players welcome.
