CWMFFRWDOER 4 MARDY AFC 4

CWMFFRWDOER Sports Club travelled to Mardy AFC near Abergavenny, for this Gwent County fixture and surrendered a 4-1 lead, allowing the home side to equalise with the last kick of the game making it 4-4.

The Doer, who travelled with only 12 players due to injuries and work commitments, reshuffled the pack and played centre half Steffan Clarke at centre forward, and brought in 16-year-old Dewi Taylor at centre half for his league debut.

The Doer opened the scoring through Clarke, who left the Mardy keeper with no chance when he volleyed in from 12 yards. The Mardy showed resolve and, following pressure on the Doer defence, deservedly equalised after 25 minutes.

Soon afterwards, a welltaken goal by striker Mikey Passmore gave the Doer a 2-1 lead and kept Mardy on the back foot. Just before half time, some excellent interchanging play between Passmore and Kristian Howells saw Howells finishing into the roof of the Mardy net with an excellent strike.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Doer took a 4-1 lead, when Clarke beat the Mardy keeper with a header.

The Mardy again showed character and, following changes, began causing the Doer problems and made the score 4-2.

The Doer reverted to a 4-5-1 formation, and after 70 minutes introduced another debutant Michael Richards, 16. With ten minutes remaining, they failed to clear their lines and were punished by Mardy during a goalmouth scramble.

With the score at 4-3, a lack of communication between the Doer players, left the Mardy striker to run free at their keeper, and score with the final kick of the game.

A disappointing result for the Doer, who were looking for their seventh win. However, Dewi Taylor was outstanding, and Mikey Richards showed promise.

On Saturday the Doer are home to Trethomas Bluebirds, ko 2pm.
