THIS local derby brought out a large crowd and it also brought out an outstanding display from Caldicot Castle keeper Dave Hayward who kept his team in the game in the first half.
Thornwell controlled the half but were guilty of playing one pass too many, and the scores were level at half-time.
Thornwell's Ian Stafford was back in goal after a break along with fit-again Chris Rees.
From a free kick on the edge of the box Tony Reynolds' shot brought out an outstanding save from keeper Hayward.
Thornwell got the goal their play deserved when left-back Dan Cole shot home from 15 yards.
Reynolds and Daniel Hind both went close before Dan Cole ran through the Castle defence to pass and not shoot when he only had Hayward to beat.
Referee Gary Lucas of Magor had a very good game.
