Cwmbran Celtic 'keeper gets all-clear
12:30pm Monday 28th January 2013 in Sport
Cwmbran Celtic goalkeeper Nicky Church has been given the all-clear to return to training – six months ahead of schedule after rupturing a spleen and being told he would be sidelined for a year.
The 26-year-old stopper was injured during an away Gwent Senior Cup game at Risca United last August and spent several days in the Royal Gwent Hospital’s intensive care unit.
He was later kept under observation in a general ward before being discharged to his Malpas home: “It’s great news and I can’t wait to get fit enough again so that I can return to playing,” said a delighted Church.
“I attended the medical appointment with Della Cheedy (Celtic head coach) and I’d like to thank him and everyone else within the club for their valued help since I picked up the injury.
“Thanks also to all my friends and family and, of course, in particular to my girlfriend, BeckyWillis.
