Gwent County 2nd Division - Cwm FC 0 Cwmffrwdoer 4
8:10am Thursday 7th February 2013 in Sport
CWMFFRWDOER Sports Club travelled to North Gwent Premier unbeaten league leaders Cwm FC on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Gwent Amateur Cup, and came away with a superb victory.
The Doer were well aware of their hosts pedigree, as the Cwm had beaten high flying Gwent County Pill FC away in the previous round.
From the first whistle the Doer were quickly into their stride with captain Matthew Jackson marshalling his troops from the middle of the park.
Together with fellowmidfielder Kyle Tovey and flying wingers, Kristian Howells and Stewart Lewis, the Doer dominated possession and began pulling the Cwm all over the field, leaving large gaps in the Cwm defence for inform strikers Ben Taylor and Mikey Passmore to exploit.
Following a number of near misses it was Jackson who opened the scoring for the Doer on 25 minutes with a left footed strike from just inside the box, immediately from the kick off the Doer made it 2-0 when Taylor ran onto a through a ball beating the Cwm keeper with a well placed shot.
The second half started with the Cwm on the front foot for the first 15 minutes and took the game to the Doer.
Having stemmed the tide the Doer again took command of the game and were unlucky not to increase their lead when they hit the woodwork on six different occasions before the Doer were awarded a penalty when Peake was brought down in the box following an excellent run, Jackson expertly dispatched the penalty kick sending the keeper the wrong way, making it 3-0 to the Doer, with 20 minutes of the game to play.
With wingers Howells and Lewis continuing to cause problems for the tired Cwm defence, another rash challenge on 80 minutes in the box by the Cwm centre half on Taylor lead to a further penalty for the Doer.
Passmore scored the Doers’ fourth goal from the spot and took his personal tally to nine goals in three games.
The Doer second eleven also recorded an excellent win with a 3-2 victory with two goals from striker Matthew Timbrell and the other from captain Scott Crowley, securing victory over Fairfield.
