Blaenavon RFC 17 v Brynithel RFC 3
12:42pm Tuesday 12th February 2013 in Sport
CAPTAIN Lee Wright watched from the side due to a broken ankle as the home team started well and after a drive by the forwards, Blaenavon went into an early lead with a try by Jamie Noble.
The visitors were forced to defend for most of the first half as Blaenavon won steady possession at the scrums, lineouts and breakdowns. Noble and Lee Baker carried well and the backs moved the ball to wings Dan Morgan and Gareth Groves.
Half an hour into the game, Adam Creese received a yellow card and Blaenavon did not score again before half time. The coaches sent on replacement Scott Creese, returning after injury.
Wayne Redman replaced Paul Jones in the forwards and consistent pressure by the home team led to a red card to Brynithel. After 20 minutes the visitors kicked a penalty following a yellow card against Baker and Steve Howard took over at prop in the scrums. The home team again took play into Brynithel’s 25.
Runs by Creese, Scott Creese and Dan Morgan kept the pressure on the visitors and Scott Creese scored Blaenavon’s second try and brother Adam converted it.
A third try for the home team was scored by Redman who followed up a kick ahead by Marc Watkins. Blaenavon deserved the win and go on to play Glyncorrwg at the Rec in the next round on Saturday.
