Cwmbran 49 Machen 0

CWMBRAN full back and man of the match Mike Davies contributed 24 points in this six-try win over Machen on Saturday. The Crows, playing at home, played well defensively first half up the slope and led 11-0 at the interval via a brace of Mike Davies penalties and an opportunist try by inside half Luke Brown.

Second half, the hosts made matters far harder for themselves by receiving a brace of yellow cards within minutes.

During this period, however, new centre pairing Joe Little and Tom Rosser, ably backed by the breakaway forwards Mike Lang and Mark Lynch, broke up any Machen attacks.

Despite the brief shortage of numbers, the Cwmbran pack supplied plenty of quick ball for Luke Brown to utilise.

Stand off Dave Thomas capitalised on this quality ball crashing over twice for tries, both converted by Mike Davies who shortly followed this with a penalty goal.

Centre Tom Rosser, flanker Mike Lang and Mike Davies all galloped in for tries, with Davies converting two.

Cwmbran Athletic fell to a 31-14 league defeat at Abergavenny, but Cwmbran Youth secured an excellent 12-10 cup win at Monmouth.
