IN thick fog and rain, a changed Monmouth team made Blaenavon raise their game.
Blaenavon also made changes in the front row with Darran Walters, Jason Bright and Lewis John up against a strengthened Monmouth pack.
Monmouth led by 7 points at half time but by the end of the game Blaenavon had scored four tries to win with the bonus point.
Second row Tom Birch scored two tries and in the wet conditions won good possession at the lineout from hooker Jason Bright’s throws. He was lucky to avoid injury by a tackle in a lineout which angered the home team and supporters. Unfortunately centre Nathan Preece was injured with a suspected broken collar bone. Dan Morgan replaced him.
Blaenavon’s other tries were scored by wings Scott Creese and Gareth Groves , both finishing well. Adam Creese was on target with his kicking but was injured just before full time and replaced by Paul Jones.
