Abergavenny driver pipped in Epynt rally
10:44am Tuesday 12th March 2013 in Sport By John Kendrick
HIGH SPEED: Abergavenny's Damian Cole with Craig Drew in their Ford Focus
AFTER 80 miles of torturous high speed stages on The Epynt Military Ranges, the result of The Tour of Epynt was a dead heat between Steve Simpson in a Subaru Impreza WRC S12 and Damian Cole from Abergavenny in a Ford Focus WRC05.
The tie decider went to the driver who was fastest on the first stage so Simpson won.
Damian will be grateful for second place points as he tries again for another National Tarmac Championship. Other local results include Den Golding from Newport who co-drove Mark Solloway in a Ford Escort RS1800 to 25th overall and 5th in class B11; Brian and Ian Davis from Abergavenny were 42nd overall and 9th in B11 class in a Ford Escort Mk2 and Wayne Bonser and Richard Aston from Llanelly Hill were 84th overall and 21st in B11 class in a Ford Escort.
Port Talbot Motor Club organised a top class event and were rewarded with a full entry list of 120 cars. The weather was bitterly cold but dry.
