Pontypool RFC hope scrum power will spur them on

PONTYPOOL RFC face the students of Cardiff Metropolitan University in Cardiff tonight buoyed by a morale boosting second-half display against Blackwood last time out.

A revamped Pontypool pack wreaked havoc at the scrums and head coach Mike Hook hopes their new found forward swagger will provide the platform for a Swalec championship win in Cyncoed.

“It’s become a massive attacking platform for us now,” Hook said of the scrum.

In recent weeks the Pooler squad have gone a bit try-shy but Hook feels the new found forwards confidence will revive his back-line.

“We were scoring a lot of tries early in the season.

We’ve shown we have a lot of ability when we go wide so it’s about the boys having belief and expressing themselves, “he said.

Cardiff Met look set to be shorn of some of their star performers preparing with the Welsh students’ side to face England, but Hook knows it will still be tough tonight.
