Cwmbran U11s 21 Cinderford U11s 12
1:00pm Thursday 14th March 2013 in Sport
CWMBRAN U11s travelled across the border to England taking on Cinderford U11s in a game under RFC rules on a muddy and slippery pitch.
Despite the conditions, both teams gave their all in a very physical encounter.
Play moved up and down the pitch at first as Cwmbran got used to the different rules. Cwmbran forwards seemed to relish the extra physicality, of contested scrums and full contact area rules, competing well in the scrums and winning quite a few against the head.
Lewis Bates made a great run through midfield to open the scoring for Cwmbran, converted by Joel Doughty. Cwmbran mounted a sustained attack on the Cinderford line and Josef Cowell powered over from short range, converted by Joel Doughty.
The Cwmbran forwards went on the rampage, putting in great drives and causing Cinderford defence problems with Tommy Maclean scoring a well worked try, converted by Lewis Bates. But Cinderford showed they were still in the game when their scrum half shot through a gap in the Cwmbran defence to score.
The scrum half found the same gap again and made a great offload to the centre to give Cinderford their second try. However, Cwmbran hung on for a 21 – 12 win.
Cwmbran: Josef Cowell, Jordan Walters, Tommy Maclean, Connor Bollon, Josef Peterson, Brennan Gait, Tomas Alcock, Joel Doughty, Morgan Spence, Will Reed, Lewis Bates, Mathias Davies and Jordan Maynard.
