NETBALL: Abergavenny B v Vets
9:10am Wednesday 20th March 2013 in Sport
Abergavenny B secured a well deserved win against a very experienced team, The Vets, on Saturday. Despite missing some key players, Aber started with some quick centres from C Victoria Price. However, the Vets were also quick on their defence and Aber were trailing 6-9 after the first quarter.
The hard work by coach Stuart Stenhouse paid off in the second quarter and all players were firing on all cylinders! This led to excellent support around the circle by WA Kath Butt and some excellent movement and positioning from GA Rebecca Pritchard and GS Hannah Morgan which led to Aber scoring 11 goals to the Vets’ 5 to lead 17-14 at half time.
The second half proved to be just as tightly fought but some excellent defensive work by WD Joanna Box, GD Meg Purvis and captain and GK Amanda Leaker led to Aber retaining their lead by 4 goals after three quarters.
Despite diminishing energy in the final quarter, Aber’s determination to win the game led to fast, accurate passing and fantastic shooting by both shooters, including Rachel Pritchard who replaced her sister Rebecca and Abergavenny finished victorious at 35 - 28.
