Race AFC score six in warm-up - Lucas Cwmbran 3 Race AFC 6

SIX-SHOOTING Race gunned down Lucas Cwmbran, of Gwent League Division Two, in a pre-season friendly.
The side were looking to build on last week’s 4-4 draw at Crickhowell and with new faces in the ranks, thoughts were whether the team could gel but it didn’t take long, as right from first minute the team looked to have a fluency about it.
Within 20 minutes, Race found themselves three goals to the good with the pace of the wingers and front two giving the home defence a torrid time before Lucas pulled a goal back.
Two changes were made at the first interval, with the game being divided into three, 30-minute periods, but this did not disrupt the flow of the game as two further goals were added to make it 5-1.
Lucas scored a very well taken goal to make it 5-2. Wholesale changes were made for the final third to give everyone a run out and halfway through the final third, a sixth goal was added.
Lucas scored their third with two minutes left before the home official finally blew the whistle to end a very encouraging display against higher opposition.
Goals were scored by Richard Wakling (three) Dean Lewis (two) and Gavin Rogers.
In midweek, the second XI travelled to Llanfoist FC, losing out narrowly in a 3-2 defeat with goals scored by Ashley Jeremiah and Peter Cowell.
The club is still encouraging any unattached players to come along to training sessions every Monday at 6.30pm, meeting at the club changing rooms.
