Gareth Bale named in Wales squad, but he won't play
GARETH Bale has been named in the Wales squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia and Belgium but manager Chris Coleman accepts that injury will keep him out of both games.
The Real Madrid star was ruled out for up to two weeks by his club last night and Coleman will not force the issue.
"We won't have Gareth, we know that now," said the Wales boss. "We've been told he'll be out for two weeks, We'll have to make changes to the squad."
Swansea City defender Ashley Williams is also named in the squad despite an injury concern and Coleman says that his captain will be assessed before the home match against Macedonia in Cardiff next Friday night.
There is no place for Newport-born defender James Collins who, Coleman again claimed, refused a call-up to the squad for last month's defeats in Macedonia and at home to Serbia.
Former Newport County AFC midfielder Lee Evans and Newport-born Ellis Harrison are both in the under-21 squad and Cwmbran-born Cardiff City youngster Theo Wharton is on the stand-by list.
Wales senior squad: Hennessey, Myhill, Fon Williams, Davies, Gabbidon, Gunter, Matthews, Ricketts, Taylor, Williams, Allen, Collison, Crofts, John, King, Ledley, Ramsey, Vaughan, Bale, Bellamy, Church, Robson-Kanu, Vokes
