SOUTH Wales Premier Cricket League new boys Panteg will start life in the top flight against champions Mumbles, writes Chris Kirwan.
Newport’s campaign gets up and running with a home encounter with Sully on May 3 while the first Gwent derby is at Panteg on June 21 before the return fixture at Spytty Park on August 23, which is the penultimate game of the season.
There will be no more mammoth spells for bowlers in 2014 as they will be limited to 10 overs while the distribution of draw points has been reduced from 12 to 10.
The allocation of Glamorgan players has been delayed until new chief executive Hugh Morris is settled into his role in the new year.
Glamorgan and Monmouth League, Division One outfit Sudbrook will attempt to repeat their Twenty20 heroics when both they and Ynystawe are hosted by Mumbles.
The Deepweir outfit made it through to finals day at the Swalec Stadium last summer after winning their group at Cardiff.
Newport will host one of this year’s four T20 festivals and will lock horns with Bridgend and Ynysygerwn while Panteg will take on Pontarddulais and Swansea at St Helen’s. Port Talbot and Neath head to Sully.
