CWMBRAN RFC Under 12s travelled to St Peters RFC, Cardiff a team that Cwmbran had not played before.
The weather may have been cold, damp and miserable but the Rugby was hot and entertaining.
Cwmbran started at a cracking pace putting St. Peters defence straight under pressure.
St Peters withstood the initial onslaught and regrouped getting their defence in order. Cwmbran indiscipline at the tackle area and ruck gave away far too many penalties putting themselves under needless pressure at times.
St Peters, however, failed to capitalize on the many penalties they were awarded and it was Cwmbran that opened the scoring with great run from Morgan Spence following a Cwmbran scrum in the St Peters 22. Another great run by Morgan Spence this time from the Cwmbran half brought his second try, converted by Joel Doughty.
Cwmbran indiscipline continued to give away penalty after penalty in the second half until they finally learned their lesson and got their act together.
Jordan Walters again performed well at the tackle area and Brennan Gait made a lot of crunching tackles.
A rare Cwmbran penalty gave them a 5 metre attacking lineout from which Evan Skuse powered over for an unconverted try.
Cwmbran then put together a good attacking move sending Lewis Bates over in the corner for an unconverted try. A tap and go penalty near the St. Peters line saw Tomas Alcock go over for an unconverted try. A brilliant flowing attack from deep in Cwmbran’s half sent Lewis Bates galloping down the right wing, passing back inside to Will Reed to score.
Will Reed had been working hard all game so it was a very well deserved try. St Peters got a converted consolation try in the dying seconds thanks to a series of 4 missed tackles by Cwmbran backs.
Final score 32 – 7 to Cwmbrân
