Ashes opener for Glamorgan

GLAMORGAN will host the First Investec Ashes Test Match of the 2015 Series, starting on Wednesday, July 8.

The England & Wales Cricket Board today confirmed the full international programme for the summer of 2015 with tours by New Zealand and Australia Cardiff's SWALEC Stadium will host the opening Investec Ashes Test Match of the five-match series as it did in 2009 when England's last pair of James Anderson and Monty Panesar mounted a famous rearguard action which enabled England to draw a gripping Ashes encounter. England and Australia will also do battle in a NatWest IT20 fixture at the Cardiff venue on Monday, August 31.

Chief executive Hugh Morris, said: "Glamorgan County Cricket Club is delighted to be hosting the opening Investec Ashes Test which promises to be an exciting and hugely anticipated contest, as one the world's most renowned sporting rivalries resumes in Cardiff.

"As in 2009, the Investec Ashes Series will be one of the major highlights of the sporting year, with huge crowds and superb action on the field. The iconic scenes of Monty Panesar and Jimmy Anderson's last wicket stand was one of the great memories of that Series and vital in the eventual outcome of the 2009 Ashes.

"To follow the Ashes Test Match with a NatWest IT20 fixture between the two teams completes a fantastic international programme for us next year and with a Royal London One-Day International between England and India on 27th August this year, cricket supporters can see world's best cricketer's in Wales in all three formats of the game in a 12 month period.”

Demand for match tickets for the Investec Ashes Test Match is sure to be massively oversubscribed once more, with tickets on sale from September 2014. Many cricket supporters have already secured the right to buy a ticket during an advance sales period by purchasing Glamorgan CCC membership this year.

A limited number of tickets are still available to purchase for the England versus India Royal London One-Day International at the SWALEC Stadium on Wednesday 27th August 2014.
