  • "Mistake leaving Phillips in IMHO. Davies outshone him more than Samson out did Jonesy.
However agree with the philosophy of make them right the mistakes, but world cup nightmare awaits methinks unless the half back combination is sorted once and for all. Not many matches left now to get that right.
Priestland must be a non starter, and if Hook is bench material Phillips certainly is.
Hope abounds in the U20s but a don't trust too much there for next year although honorable exceptions like Amos and Rees are about."

WALES have made just two changes to their side to face South Africa in Nelspruit on Saturday – with tighthead Adam Jones dropped from the matchday squad.

Boss Warren Gatland hands a first Test start to prop Samson Lee ahead of Jones, who doesn’t even get a place on the bench after being replaced in the first half in Durban last weekend, while Josh Turnbull replaces Aaron Shingler at openside flanker.

There had been calls from some quarters to include scrum-half Gareth Davies, full-back Matthew Morgan and lock Ian Evans after the 38-16 first Test thrashing in Durban but the head coach has kept changes to a minimum and has demanded a response.

“We see Saturday as an opportunity to right the wrongs of last weekend," said Gatland.

"We were disappointed with last week's display but we want to finish the season with a big performance and show what we know we are capable of.

"It's a great opportunity for Samson and Josh and they deserve the chance after impressing from the bench last weekend.”

Tighthead Aaron Jarvis is preferred to Jones on the bench while lock Jake Ball and number eight Dan Baker are also included in the 23.

Wales: Liam Williams (Scarlets), Alex Cuthbert (Cardiff Blues), Jonathan Davies (Scarlets), Jamie Roberts (Racing Metro), George North (Northampton Saints), Dan Biggar (Ospreys), Mike Phillips (Racing Metro), Gethin Jenkins (Cardiff Blues), Ken Owens (Scarlets), Samson Lee (Scarlets), Luke Charteris (Perpignan), Alun Wyn Jones (Capt) (Ospreys), Dan Lydiate (Racing Metro), Josh Turnbull (Scarlets), Taulupe Faletau (Newport Gwent Dragons).

Replacements: Matthew Rees (Cardiff Blues), Paul James (Bath), Aaron Jarvis (Ospreys), Jake Ball (Scarlets), Dan Baker (Ospreys), Gareth Davies (Scarlets), James Hook (Perpignan), Matthew Morgan (Ospreys).
