Usk gunning for Dragons in charity T20

7:54am Friday 11th July 2014

AFTER patiently waiting two years for revenge Usk will attempt to turn the tables on Newport Gwent Dragons by hitting them for six on Sunday.

The Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League, Division One cricket side are hosting the Rodney Parade Pro12 rugby side in a charity T20 match to raise funds for Laurence-Moon-Bardet-Biedl Society and St David's Foundation Hospice Care.

Last year's encounter fell victim to the weather, denying the hosts the chance to gain revenge after the Dragons won in 2012 thanks to scrum-half Jonathan Evans' last-ball six.

"We are once again extremely grateful and privileged that the Dragons have agreed to play us in what's become a great day for the club and the town," said Usk captain Henry Lewis.

"Regretfully last year's event was rained off so we've had to bide our time to avenge 2012's last ball defeat, we know that they have strong cricketers amongst their squad so it won't be easy.

"Fingers crossed for some decent weather and a big crowd to help raise much needed money for our chosen charities, both of whom have given immeasurable personal support to several families at our club."

Centre Pat Leach, who played for Wales Minor Counties, leads a Dragons squad that features wing Aled Brew, flanker Lewis Evans and number eight Andy Powell.

The match starts at 3pm after a warm-up game featuring the club's juniors. Entry is £3 for adults and £1 for children.

Dragons squad: P Leach, A Brew, R Buckley, J Evans, J Tovey, L Evans, K Burton, O Evans, A Powell, R Thomas, D Jones, R Jones, P Grzonka (commercial director), Mark Jones (head of operations).
