WING Aled Brew is relishing the chance to go on the charge again for Newport Gwent Dragons after two seasons of being starved of the ball in the south of France.

The 28-year-old Wales speedster has returned to Rodney Parade after a frustrating spell with Biarritz.

Brew earned a big move to the Top 14 thanks to a strike rate of 43 tries in 108 games for the Dragons but barely got a chance to stretch his legs at the Parc des Sports Aguilera.

He scored just three tries – in away losses to Toulon in March 2013, Toulouse in September 2013 and Perpignan in March 2014 – for a Biarritz side that suffered relegation last season.

Brew may have got the chance to train and play alongside legendary French players Dimitri Yachvili, Imanol Harinordoquy and Damien Traille but he is glad to be home.

"I was pretty disappointed with my lack of ball in France so I've come back keen and hungry to get some," he said.

"I'll appreciate the possession that does come my way and I am excited about getting the season under way.

"I wouldn't change a thing, though. I enjoyed going out to France, the rugby wasn't what I expected but the lifestyle was really good and I'd like to think that I've come back more mature."

Brew says he has settled back into Dragons life rapidly – "like a glove" – and will be expected to be a mentor as well as being their prime weapon in attack.

He is in his prime at 28 yet bringing the best out of exciting prospects Jack Dixon, Hallam Amos and Tyler Morgan is a job requirement along with crossing the whitewash.

"It's been great being back," he said. "There aren't too many players left from when I was here last but it's good to see that lots of the academy boys have made the step up.

"They have come of age and it's great to see talent coming through and wanting to learn. I will try and pass on any knowledge that I've got."

Brew has been in the international wilderness since being capped for a ninth time against the Barbarians two years ago.

George North and Alex Cuthbert are nailed-on starters for Wales but Brew could yet fire himself into contention for a second successive World Cup.

However, it's Lyn Jones rather than Warren Gatland that the winger wants to impress.

"Wales is always in the back of your mind but at the moment I just want to play well for the Dragons and try to help us get back up the table and be top region," he said.

"That's my main aim and it would be good if I could help get the likes of Jack, Hallam and Pat Leach into the Wales squad."
