GLAMORGAN have got used to the eyes of the cricketing world being on the Swalec Stadium but chief executive Hugh Morris admits it’s special when India are the visitors.

Cardiff will host the second game of the five-match series on Wednesday (10.30am start) as England look to follow up their stunning Test comeback against the tourists that saw them triumph 3-1.

Plenty of international cricket has been played in the capital in recent years and the preparations are already well under way for next summer’s second Ashes opener.

But the fanatical Indian fans, both in the stands and in front of their televisions in the sub-continent, will ensure that next week is no ordinary occasion for Morris.

“The club has got used to hosting international cricket but it is always special when India are in town,” said the former Glamorgan and England opener.

“There will be millions of people watching and it presents a really good chance to showcase the Swalec Stadium and Welsh cricket.

“India won the last World Cup and the Champions Trophy; they have got a very strong one-day side led by MS Dhoni, who is one of the best one-day cricketers of all time.

“But England will be looking to develop ahead of next year’s World Cup and it was really good to see how they turned things around in the Test series. They will be really buoyant and it promises to be a terrific occasion.”

There won’t be any Glamorgan representation in the England line-up but a pair of former favourites will be plotting an Indian success on their old stomping ground.

Indian icon Ravi Shastri, who played for the club between 1987 and 1991, has joined former coach Duncan Fletcher’s management team.

Morris said: “It will be great to see two ‘Welshmen’ at the helm! Ravi is hugely respected throughout the cricketing world and I know that he had a great time when he was down here and lived in Sully.

“And Duncan is a hugely successful international cricket coach with a vast amount of knowledge about the game. It will be interesting to see how their partnership works out.”

India will be looking to maintain their fine form in Cardiff – last summer they beat Australia, Sri Lanka and South Africa in the capital on their way to retaining the Champions Trophy.
