NEWPORT Gwent Dragons will move a step closer to knowing their final European opponents this weekend when the first leg of the Rugby Challenge Cup qualifiers takes place.

The Dragons have been drawn with Stade Francais and Newcastle in Pool Three and they will be joined by either Calvisano or Bucharest Wolves.

The pair lock horns in Romania on Saturday evening and then at the Peroni Stadium in northern Italy seven days later with the victors decided by aggregate score.

The Dragons will travel to either Calvisano or Bucharest on December 4, 5, 6 or 7 before hosting them at Rodney Parade the following weekend.

Rovigo of Italy are taking on Tbilisi Caucasians of Georgia for a place in Pool One alongside Cardiff Blues, London Irish and Grenoble.
