CAPTAIN Ashley Williams says Wales will go to Belgium without any fear next month, writes Andrew Penman.

Wales will travel to Brussels on November 16 as leaders of Group B after beating Cyprus 2-1 in their latest Euro 2016 qualifier at the Cardiff City Stadium on Monday night.

First half goals from substitute David Cotterill and striker Hal Robson-Kanu saw the hosts surge into a 2-0 lead.

But a goal from Cypriot Vincent Laban and a red card for Andy King just after the break meant Chris Coleman’s men had to hang on for a precious three points.

It means they top the group on seven points and Williams says they’ll probably need at least another ten points to put themselves in contention for a place at the tournament in France.

“We’ll probably need 17 or more to do anything but we’re just focusing on each game as it comes up,” said the Swansea City defender.

“The momentum is key; it would have been a shame if we didn’t get the win because I felt we deserved it.

“We haven’t lost in the group now and the league table looks good.

“We’re in good form and we can approach the next game now full of confidence.

“It’s a game we have to approach with no fear but we also need to respect them because they’re a top team.”

It was a frustrating night for Charlton striker Simon Church, who qualifies for Wales through his Newport grandparents.

He was forced off with a shoulder injury in the opening minutes and saw his replacement Cotterill open the scoring.

“It popped out but it went straight back in so hopefully it shouldn’t be too bad,” said Church of the injury.

“It was a nightmare; we prepared all weekend and got ready for this huge game and I was out after a couple of minutes.

“It’s unfortunate for me but the lads did well and got the win we needed.

“And it’s great for Cotts; he’s been waiting for his chance and he came on and got the goal so I’m pleased for him.”
