EBBW Vale teenager Ellis Morgan was named young volunteer of the year at the Football Association of Wales Community Awards.

Morgan joined football legends including Craig Bellamy and Ryan Giggs at the annual grassroots football awards, presented by McDonald’s.

The FAW Community Awards aim to recognise and celebrate those volunteers, clubs and leagues, across Wales, who dedicate their time to grassroots football in their local community.

Morgan received his award from McDonald’s head of Welsh football Giggs ahead of the Wales' Euro 2016 qualifier against Cyprus at the Cardiff City Stadium on Monday.

The 17-year-old was rewarded for the passion and willingness he brings to his role as Islwyn JFL mini football co-ordinator, which involves running facilities for the under-7s and under-8s mini football teams.

Through his involvement with his local club and role as a young ambassador for his local authority, Morgan not only volunteers as a coach, but also behind the scenes helping to run the sessions for other young players.

He has also been involved with coaching in local primary schools, via his young ambassador role and his effort and commitment has been a key factor in the growth of the under-7s and under-8s at his club where he has been a constant and enthusiastic volunteer.

Giggs said: “Ellis’ award is a reflection of the hard work that goes into grassroots football which runs up and down the country.

"It is thanks to volunteers like Ellis that our young footballers can enjoy grassroots football in a safe and fun environment.

"It’s important that we recognise the extraordinary efforts of the volunteers and clubs across Wales because without their dedication, time and effort the game as we know it wouldn’t exist.

"I would like to personally congratulate Ellis on winning as it is fantastic that he has been recognised with this prestigious award.”

McDonald’s has been working with the FAW for 12 years to improve the standards of grassroots football.

As part of McDonald’s continued support for the grassroots game, 500 accredited clubs with a junior team will be given the opportunity to order a brand new adidas strip every year for the next four seasons.
