BEDWAS have pledged to take the game to the Principality Premiership champions as they go in search of a first win at Pontypridd tomorrow afternoon.

Bedwas make the short trip to Sardis Road in buoyant mood after brushing Newport aside 29-16 at Bridge Field last weekend.

Lock Alwyn Lee, centre Michael Callow, fly-half Jack Maynard and wings Rory Budina and Matthew John crossed for tries in the bonus-point win that the management team felt could have been even more comprehensive.

Assistant coach Ian Gardner said: "It was a really good win and we needed it after slipping down the table a bit but I don't think the score reflected how we dominated for 80 minute. It was an excellent performance."

Tasks don't come much tougher than Ponty on their patch, especially as the champions will be looking to fire back following a rare home defeat, albeit at the hands of big-spending Bristol in the British and Irish Cup.

It's a stern test but Bedwas can take heart from their only away fixture of the season so far when they upset Cross Keys on their own turf.

And they also went close in the respective fixture last season when late Ponty tries by flanker Rhys Shellard and full-back Geraint Walsh earned the hosts a 42-31 win.

"Ponty are on the back of three really impressive performances in the British and Irish Cup and are a superb side," said Gardner.

"But we ran them close last year and we are not going to shy away from the challenge. We have to take them on and feel that we have a team that can worry them.

"We have a big pack and the backs were excellent against Newport, so we'll have a real crack.

"It's going to be a big challenge but a few nerves in the belly isn't a bad thing and we head there with confidence after last week."
