NEW South African recruit Brok Harris is relishing the chance to show his appetite for "the heavy stuff" when he makes his Rodney Parade bow for Newport Gwent Dragons tomorrow evening.

The 29-year-old tighthead is poised for his first Guinness Pro12 action when he lines up against Munster in Newport (kick-off 7.30pm).

Harris has impressed against Harlequins and the Ospreys in the LV= Cup after heading to Wales with a Currie Cup winner's medal around his neck following his exploits with Western Province.

The former Stormers prop may have provided a YouTube hit when thumping a 60-metre metre spiral kick downfield but he insists he prefers to thrive in the dark arts of the front row.

He said: "That clip was in 2010, I'm not kicking anymore! I enjoy mauling, scrumming, carrying ball and tackling is one of my strong points, I don't like to miss them.

"I like the heavy stuff and you must stand your ground in the scrum but also contribute around the pitch."

Harris showed that with a strong performance against Quins and then played his part in the tight five's destruction of the Ospreys in Bridgend.

"It's gone well but there's still a lot to work on, especially for me adapting to the mindset of the northern hemisphere with the longer scrums," said Harris.

"I've been getting used to that and the structures and calls, because I was at Western Province for eight years so it's not going to come overnight and my first few weeks have been busy.

"We have been working hard and everybody is buying into what we are doing – there's a great work ethic here towards the set piece.

"We will build every week and try to improve because if you are not growing then you are dead."

The Dragons pack will face a sterner test against Munster tomorrow with the Irish province looking for another victory despite being without their internationals.

They turned over Cardiff Blues in the capital last month but Harris is hopeful that the raucous home support can help the Rodney Parade region record just their second win of the Pro12 to climb up from 10th.

He said: "Rynard Landman said there is a good vibe with people coming to support even in the rain and cold. I've heard it's noisy and I'm looking forward to it."
