ROSS Wardle says Newport Gwent Dragons have to start digging deep when the going gets tough, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Rodney Parade region, who travel to Glasgow on Sunday in the Guinness Pro12, have made a poor start to the season and are being hindered by second-half collapses.

In their last five games they have scored a cumulative total of 22 points while they have conceded 118, with last weekend's demoralising home defeat to Munster especially hard to take.

The Dragons were booed off by their own fans after seeing a 9-7 lead turn into a 38-12 drubbing.

"We don't seem to stay in it as soon as the pendulum starts to swing the other way," said 23-year-old centre Wardle.

"We are dropping off and 31-3 in the second half against Munster just wasn't good enough. It's always bad to lose at home but the lose by 30 points is embarrassing.

"It's not about a lack of experience; there are boys in the team with enough of it and enough ability.

"When you are defending for the entire half the game is only going to go one way. It's not just on the 9 and 10 to get us out of our own territory – we are getting beaten physically and when you are behind the gain line there's no way you are going to get back into their half."

The Dragons are huge underdogs for this weekend's clash despite doing the double over the Warriors last season.

Fourth-placed Glasgow will be boosted by the return of their Scotland contingent as they attempt to get their title challenge back on track after last weekend's 19-9 loss to the Scarlets in Llanelli.
