PENYGARN & Trevethin contested a tight affair on Saturday against visitors Blaenavon Blues (A) in the Knauf Insulation Gwent Central Football League Open Cup – which will have a new winner this season.

The home side won by the odd goal of five and go through to the last eight.

Penygarn goals were scored by Shane Taylor, David Walker and Dewi Richaedson. Blaenavon’s came from Jamie Parfitt and Ryan Tidball.

Another dramatic game saw cup holders Gilwern & District go down to Usk Town(A) 3-2 after extra time. The half time score was 2-1 to Gilwern but by full time Usk Town had pulled level, so extra time was required. Usk Town scored the all important goal and held on to go through to the last eight.

Usk’s scorers were George Lloyd with two and Rhys Brooks. Adam Carrington scored both Gilwern goals.

The final cup game was between Division One leaders Crickhowell (A) and Division Two side Gilwern & District (B). Crickhowell won 10-0.

In Division One PILCS entertained Cwmffrwdoer and won 3-1. PILCS goals came from Matthew Brown, Darren Phillips and Allen Jonson. The Cwmffrwdoer goal was scored by Mark Walker. PILCS move up to tenth and Cwmffrwdoer remain eighth.

Clydach Wasps were the visitors at Llanfoist and achieved only their second win of the season

3-2. Their goals scored by Dan Williams with two and the other scored by Nathan Wall.

Llanfoist drop one place to fifth, while Clydach stay ninth.

Mardy were home to Pontypool Town who proved too strong for them and went down 8-3.

Pontypool Town stay seventh and Mardy remain bottom.

In Division Two Abergavenny Town and Penygarn & Trevethin (B) fought out a 2-2 draw. Goals for Penygarn were scored by Antony Richards and Morgan Stark.

Penygarn move down one place to forth and Abergavenny move up to fifth.

Blaenavon Blues (B) entertained Bailey Rangers and beat them 3-0. The goals were scored by Jack Parry, Glen Harvey and Llewelyn Clarke. Blaenavon move up to third and Bailey Rangers drop to seventh.

Both Race & Usk Town (B) failed to raise a side, so they could not play their fixtures.
