HALLAM Amos hopes to reap the reward of his hard graft with Wales when he makes his return to the Newport Gwent Dragons starting XV tomorrow evening.

The 20-year-old will line up on the wing against Bucharest in the European Rugby Challenge Cup at Rodney Parade (kick-off 7.30pm).

Amos spent November with the Wales squad for the autumn internationals but didn't add to the solitary cap he won against Tonga last year.

However, he caught the eye of Lions wing Alex Cuthbert, who told Rugby World he was being kept on his toes.

"He trains so hard," said the speedster. "Jonathan Davies said the other day: 'I'm going to be last in the gym today' but no, Hallam was still there grafting.

"He's in great shape and wants to learn all the time. He has a great kicking game and lifts as much as me and George (North) in the gym."

Amos, who was released by Warren Gatland to feature against Munster last month and has come off the bench against Glasgow and Bucharest in the past fortnight, insists he is playing catch-up.

"It was nice of Cuthy to say those things but I don't think it's strictly true! I'd like to think that I am working hard get to their level," he said.

"I didn't get an opportunity in the autumn but it bodes well for the future and I learnt a lot.

"I was 24th man for three games and it was good to soak up the pre-match atmosphere at the Millennium Stadium while the fitness work was really tough.

"The cryotherapy let us do three sessions a day and it was hard both physically and mentally.

"Now I am concentrating on performing for the Dragons and I know that I have to improve my level of consistency; I've seen the Lee Halfpenny and George North repeating how well they do things over and over again.

"Lyn (Jones, Dragons director of rugby) is constantly on to me about reducing my turnover rates and I know that I have to work hard to improve because being young is no excuse."

The Dragons triumphed 37-10 in Bucharest last Saturday and should ease past the Wolves tomorrow evening to provide the perfect build-up to crunch Guinness Pro12 games with Zebre and Cardiff Blues (away and home).

"It's an important month for us and we want to keep building," said Amos. "We are looking for five wins from this festive period and if we get them then we will have got our season back on track.

"We have to be careful against Bucharest and prepare for them like any other opponent. They proved last week that they have got a strong pack and a few dangerous runners."
