NEWPORT Gwent Dragons will go to the top of Pool Three of the European Rugby Challenge Cup if they beat Bucharest with a bonus point at Rodney Parade tomorrow evening after Newcastle lost a thriller in Paris.

The Falcons suffered a first defeat of their campaign after losing 31-24 to Stade Francais this evening, who keep their own slim qualification hopes alive with a five-point haul.

Newcastle emerged with a bonus point but it could have easily been more after an enterprising display at Stade Jean Bouin against the French side’s power game.

Stade had their bonus point in the bag by half-time thanks to scores by centre Kristian Inu, wing Djibril Camara, full-back Paul Williams and a penalty try.

Newcastle ended the game in enemy territory but failed to barge their way over for a fourth try after efforts by centre Juan Socino, impressive full-back Simon Hammersley and number eight Mark Wilson.

It sets up a fascinating end to the group with the Dragons expected to get five points against Bucharest tomorrow before travelling to the north east of England and hosting Stade Francais at Rodney Parade in January.
