A TORFAEN football team from is looking for support in its bid to secure £1,000 worth of sponsorship and avoid being crowned the worst team in the UK.

Scouting For Goals, which is made up of players from in and around Cwmbran, has been selected as a finalist for Flaming Grill’s Flaming Failures competition, after having won only two of its past 46 games.

The team will now go up against three others in a public vote, with the two most popular set to take part in a football match that will decide who is the country’s worst football team and who will win £1,000 worth of Flaming Grill sponsorship.

Team captain, Craig Brown, said: “Week in, week out we turn up to our Sunday League determined to win, but unfortunately we have only ever won our first ever game and a pre-season friendly. We try our best but have no luck, so it would be fantastic if we could get some local support in our bid secure the £1,000 worth of Flaming Grill sponsorship.”

To show its support for the team’s bid, local Flaming Grill, the Man of Gwent invited Scouting for Goals down to the pub for a round of drinks.

General manager, Katie Evans, said: “We’re really keen to encourage as many people as possible to vote for Scouting for Goals.

"If the team gets through to the final, facing off against another awful team might just give them a chance at winning for a change.

"It would be fantastic if it was a Gwent team that takes home the Flaming Grill sponsorship.”

To vote for Scouting for Goals, locals simply need to need to visit www.facebook.com/flaminggrillpubs before January 25.
