Fishwick Cup semi-finals

THIS season’s Fishwick Cup final promises to be a veteran extravaganza after the two teams of Chepstow Town B and Caldicot Town B in the league’s Division 2 won Saturday’s semi-finals.

Both the teams were formed to give older players the chance of competitive football and both saw off younger teams to book their places in the final.

Severn Bridge and Underwood SC B fell victim to their more aged opponents, Bridge losing 4-1 to Castle and Underwood missed out as Chepstow Town “parked the bus” after taking a 2-1 lead.

Bridge’s goal was scored by Ali McDonald while James Reid claimed all four of Castle’s strikes while Dean Barnett and Toby North were on target for Chepstow.

“Underwood were 1-0 up in the first half,” explained Town’s Paul Light.

“We equalised through Dean and then I came on as a sub in the second half and backheeled the ball to Toby North to score the winner from 25 yards.

“We parked the bus then and it was a great battle but we held out.”

Underwood boss Craig Johnson admitted his team were disappointed.

“It’s disappointing not to be in the final but it just wasn't our day,” he said.

“We hit the crossbar three times and had shot after shot cleared off the line by their defence.

“For the last 30 minutes Chepstow parked the bus and we just could not score. We have to bounce back now and concentrate on the league.”
