CWMBRAN Town FC clashed with Pill AFC on Saturday, but with little to differentiate the two teams in the bottom half of Gwent County League Division One, it ended in a 2-2 stalemate, writes Alexander Folkard.

Palfrey gifted Cwmbran the lead with two goals in the first five minutes, placing Pill on the back foot.

But the let the 2-0 lead slide despite having numerous shots on goal throughout the first half. When Pill scored on the counter, the emphasis seemed to have shifted in their favour.

Cwmbran keeper, Crimmins, staved off an unrelenting Pill attack with a helping hand from defender Manning and the woodwork.

But he could do little moments later when an unchallenged header on 60 minutes left the Crows languishing after their early lead.

A 2-2 scoreline left the game open in the final third. But neither side was able to capitalise.

Despite promising play from the offset the season is taking its toll, and weaknesses in defence were exploited on both sides.

With eight league games remaining it will be left to the final furlong of the season to see if Cwmbran can create some daylight between them and the bottom of the table.
