A TOTAL of 33 members of Chepstow Harriers either ran or volunteered at the Newport parkrun at Tredegar Park on Saturday to raise money for Comic Relief.

The running club donated £5 to Comic Relief for every member of the club running as well as £5 for each of the seven members of the Couch to 5k group who also 'graduated' on this day after achieving their goal of completing the 5k run.

A total of £200 was therefore raised.

Chepstow Harrier Niki Morgan said “I was delighted with the attendance at the Newport parkrun from fellow Harriers today. It is a great opportunity for people to keep fit and help alleviate suffering in other parts of the world, albeit in a small way. It was also great to be able to tie this event in with the culmination of the Chepstow Harriers’ Couch to 5k training course. Coach Chris Rees was extremely proud of the seven members who successfully graduated from the course today.”

Several members of Chepstow Harriers went on from the park run to Aberdare to compete or marshal at the Dare Valley fell race. This was the second race in the Chepstow Harriers’ fell series and the challenging course was approximately six miles long with 1,140 feet of ascent.

There were several Chepstow prize winners including Paul Murrin, Joc Dodd, Andy Creber, Denise Evans, Vanessa Lawson and Niki Morgan.

On this very busy Saturday for Chepstow Harriers, Kath Matthew and Jane Horler ran for the senior women’s team for East Wales in the Inter-counties cross-country championships in Birmingham. Several junior members were also picked for the East Wales team including Ellie Horton and Hannah and Joe Lidgett.
