BLAENAVON Blues welcomed Newport Corinthians to the Memorial Ground on Saturday, with the Blues looking for their first win since before Christmas.
The visitors dominated first half possession, while the young Blues team failed to get control of the game, writes Matthew Cox.
The best chance of the half falling to Craig Harris who’s shot was well saved by the away keeper. The visitors went in at half time a goal to the good.
The second half saw the Blues pick their game up.
Matt Burns looked to have got the Blues back on level terms but the referee harshly adjudged him off side.
Within five minutes though, the Corries found themselves two up with a well taken goal.
The Blues came back at the visitors and a Craig Tanner header just went over the bar.
Shortly after, to the relief of the home side, it was Tanner who got a goal back for the Blues with a sharp turn and shot in the box.
But with the Blues pushing forward looking for the equaliser, the Newport based side grabbed a third goal to seal all three points.
This weekend the Blues travel to local rivals Cwmffrwdoer Sports. Kick off is 3pm.
On Wednesday April 1, the Blues reserve team face Crickhowell FC in the semi-final of the Gwent Central leagues Langdon cup.
Kick off is 6pm at Abergavenny’s Pen-Y-Pound Stadium.
On Wednesday April 8, Pen-Y-Pound is the venue when the Blues third team face Crickhowell reserves in the semi-final of the Benevolent Cup. Kick off is, again, at 6pm.
